Special guest: Author, presenter, and consultant Chris MacGregor, publisher of Savage Design and Flazoom.com
HTML, even with its latest W3C enhancements, offers limited experience capabilities when it comes to producing effective applications. Because of this, there is a growing need for a browser-independent mechanism offering a user experience more tailored to the needs of the user.
Macromedia's Flash is stepping up to the plate to meet this need. It offers several advantages over HTML including a powerful client-side scripting capability, offering a more 'application-like' interaction model, and the platform-independent player delivers a consistent interface, whether on a desktop or a PDA.
Chris MacGregor, a leading proponent of using Flash to improve user experience on the web, will demonstrate several state-of-the-art applications, walking through the challenges that Flash overcomes and discussing where Flash succeeds and where it falls short and how Flash is helping websites improve the experience of their visitors.
Chris’ 11 year history in interactive communication began with HyperCard, moved to HTML and now focuses on creating intuitive experiences through applications of Flash. Before joining the Savage Design team, he consulted on and built projects including home automation systems, online product catalogs, eLearning systems, retail kiosks and web based applications for clients including ExxonMobil, Halliburton, BMC Software, Shell Chemical, CMS Energy, SmithBits, Dynergy, Emeril Lagasse and Compaq.
In addition to his award-winning interaction work, Chris is a frequent conference speaker and lead author of the book, "The Flash Usability Guide from Friends of Ed."
